Exceptional collection of ‘Diverse maniere d'adornare i cammini’ (Various ways of decorating fireplaces) bound in half leather, printed in Rome in 1769, rebound around 1900 by Sayer & Wilson Cambridge.
The collection begins with an introductory apologetic by the architect Giambattista Piranesi (Venice, 1720 - Rome, 1778) on Egyptian and Tuscan architecture translated into three languages (Italian, French and English) and contains 70 full-page etchings of various fireplace designs and ornaments.
Despite foxing, the engravings are in a good state of preservation and are impressively detailed. The leather binding shows signs of wear.
