Large, high-quality, and highly detailed plaster copy after the so-called Torri or Mattei Horse, an écorché study depicting the musculature of a horse. The sculpture is mounted on a modern black metal base. The original was created in bronze by Giambologna in Florence around 1585 during the Renaissance. One of the most famous equine studies of the Renaissance, the model was created as an anatomical reference for artists and later reproduced in several variants, including versions attributed to Luigi Valadier during the eighteenth century.
