Round Covered Box with Portrait Miniature, Paris, circa 1790/1800

Round covered box in 18-carat yellow gold, approx. 186 g. The lid is inset with a miniature portrait of a girl seated on a garden bench. Painted in colors and watercolor on an ivory plaque and framed behind glass. Unidentified maker’s mark “X.Q.”
Provenance: Formerly in the Erika Pohl-Ströher Collection; acquired at Christie’s Geneva, March 10, 1983, with glass dome (SFR 42,000).
