Biedermeier Walnut Secretary Chest, Austria, circa 1820

Biedermeier secretary chest in walnut, Austria, circa 1820. Rectangular chest with three drawers, beautifully figured walnut veneer, and partially ebonized details. The front is flanked by slender ebonized columns and rests on tapered square feet. The drawers are fitted with finely crafted gilt brass mounts in the form of rosettes. The upper drawer front folds down to reveal a writing surface with a dark polished finish. The interior features four small drawers and an open central compartment. The two lower drawers provide additional storage. The chest has been restored and hand-polished.
