Fire-gilt and burnished bronze pendulum clock with Amor as painter. The case is made in the shape of a tree stump and stands on a smooth plinth with lion paws. The enamel dial with Roman hours is signed: Dubuc H.ger (Horloger) à Paris. The fire-gilt figural group shows Amor as a painter putting the finishing touches to his work of art: The potrait of a poodle on an elegant upholstered stool. The little dog still stands as a model and looks at the viewer with large glass eyes. Jean Baptiste Charles Gabriel Dubuc lived from 1743 to 1819 and was a clockmaker in Paris and court clockmaker to the Count of Artois, the brother of Louis XVI, later King Charles X. A comparable model is illustrated in Elke Niehüser, French Bronze Clocks, o.A. 1999, p. 179, figs. 289-290.
