Pair of Empire Girandoles, attributed to Louis-Auguste Hervieu, France, circa 1810

SKU: 081-0570

Pair of girandoles with three-flame candelabra made of fire-gilt and burnished bronze. The candlesticks stand on a three-pass pedestal with pressed ball feet. Above it rises an obelisk on winged claw feet with figurative scenes in relief. A sphere leads to the three-armed candlestick with three owls and a crowning flame motif.

The pair can be compared to a similar one by French bronzier Louis-Auguste Hervieu (1765 - 1811) and another pair that can be found at the Chateau Grand Trianon in Versailles. All pairs feature the characteristic triple owl motif underneath the candelabra.

Lit: Jean-Dominique Augarde: Une nouvelle vision du bronze et des bronziers sous le Directoire et l'Empire.
