Mantel clock in gray marble featuring a full-length bronze figure, possibly of the Muse Clio. The book she holds is gilt, and she leans thoughtfully against the clock case. The movement is housed in an octagonal case of fire-gilt bronze, ornamented with acanthus leaves and a beaded border around the bezel. The enamel dial displays Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the seconds and is signed “Dubue Jeune.” A refined example of early 19th-century French Empire craftsmanship with classical iconography.
