Large Japanese chest with hinged lid and metal handles on the sides. The wall is executed with lightly raised decorations in hira- and takamiki-e over a dense nashiji ground in the form of phoenixes and kiri flowers as well as rocks. The metal fittings on the corners and edges are finely engraved and embossed. The former gilding is rubbed. The interior of the chest is lined with gold brocade.
